Petco has bad customer service and rude employees

I went into the E. Virginia Beach, VA to purchase some outfits for my 3 dogs. I found a clearance rack marked 75% off. The sign was balanced between the center of the 4 way rack and you were unable to read any writing below the 75% due to the fact it was covered. There weren't very many outfits on it but found 3. I also found other things in the store. I went to the checkout and they had a dog trainer ringing the register which was new on it. One outfit ring the correct price and the other 2 did not. She stated oh these are 75% off too but I am not sure how to fix it, let me ask someone. Another employee came and told her she would have to have the manager to do it. At this point, I was waiting 10 minutes. The manager comes to the register and the cashier informed her of the problem. She never even looks at me and states oh those aren't listed on the sign and walks away in the direction of the rack. The cashier says oh she is going to check on it. She passes the rack without stopping and heads to the back of the store. I and the cashier stood there for 5 minutes. The cashier states she doesn't know what happens and calls the manager back. As the manager approaches she said "What is the problem?" with all I can say is a snotty voice and a bob of the head. The cashier says what did you find out. "About WHAT" store manager says. "The outfits?" cashier responds. "I SAID they aren't listed on the sign!!" The cashier starts to point at the rack "But they are all on that rack." " I said they aren't LISTED!!" The manager finally turns to me and said "DO YOU WANT THESE OR NOT, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?" I have to say I fell back on my heals and with wide shocked eyes said "Yes, but I would like them for the 75% off, you can't see what is written on the sign. It's covered." The manager with a bob of the head and a flip of her voice "I am NOT doing it" At this point, I believe I was done. I asked her for her for the manager she said she was the manager. I asked her for her district manager's information. She informed me that they don't give out the district manager's name or number and does not give out the corporate headquarters number. After asking her 5x she finally said they had a customer care line I could make a complaint on. I asked for it. She went in the back, came back out with a business card and throw. Let me restate that THROW it on the corner in front of me and said "GOOD LUCK".

Now at this point, while in the store, I called the number. It clearly is a India Call Center. No one could speak English well. The man was trying to be nice, but informed me he didn't have any numbers but the store number and I could call and make a complaint to the same store manager I just dealt with or he could leave a message with the direct manager and it would take 48 hrs before he could get back to me. He couldn't give out the corporate headquarters number or give me the name of whom would be calling me. I even ask for his boss. She was nice but same story. I ask if she could just call him and tell him to call me. They had no phone numbers they just send emails.

This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I shop Petsmart all the time because of their service. I have had complaints about small stuff and it is always resolved or an apology. I spend about 500 a month on food and supplies for my 6 animals. I thought I would give Petco a try. NEVER AGAIN. I will stay with Petsmart.

Shoppers BEWARE!!!!!!!!!

Some tired of their jobs and dealing with *** customers.

The best thing you should have done is got out your camera phone and filmed it. Then put it on youtube and I guarantee you someone from Petco will be calling you back lol.

Guest

That's not petco's fault..that manager was just a ***..she could had easily given you the number..she just didn't want too..you can't blame petco because of one person.

Unethical & unprofessional

Due to a previous bad experience with petco's competition, petsmart, in the dog training position, I tried an experiment, just to see how PETCO and petsmart as well, would handle the situation. I applied at petco, being more than qualified for the position of dog trainer, but asked for petsmart NOT to be contacted, and that I would explain why if they chose to interview me . Which they did, and while interviewing, I was completely honest with all that had transpired during my miserable employment with petsmart and why. The last words I heard, when leaving the interview were "we are looking to fill this position quickly so that the current trainer can move up into his new position as manager of the dog and cat department. Would next Wednesday be a good time to reach you? " I assured him, that was fine and left. Over 2 wks later and no phone call being received, I noticed the job had been re- posted online. So, I thought I would give old David a call to see how I could improve on my interviewing skills, so success would be more likely in the future. Well, he came up with an all out, bald faced lie, instead of showing me any sign of having just a tad more integrity and moral principles than petsmart,by explaining they had decided not to promote the current dog trainer, and keep him in the position, and hire someone new into the manager position of the dog and cat department instead. I asked if there was any reason the job had been reposted only the day before, and he stuttered around, finally saying, " oh, sometimes they do that by mistake. But it is no longer available. " Today, one week later, it is posted again. I am headed in there this evening to talk to a trainer about signing up for classes.! I have nothing to lose! I am outta here in less than a week and I wouldn't take my dog to petco or petsmart for dog training if they were the only gig in town, and now, I surely won't consider the idea of being employed as a trainer through any retail pet supply store. They have no interest in any quality service or whether or not the very inexperienced people they put in dog training positions, know anything at all about what they are doing, and all they care about is closing the sale of the class, not about the quality of the class, in the least. I will work in my own business as I have been, for years, even while working for PetDumb, regardless of it being against company policy. Screw them. They discriminate and then retaliate if any complaints are made. Just speaking the truth. And obviously, petco is exactly like them

Slugcult is right. Alot of time they will just keep the posts up incase they lose someone and already have people that are ready for the posistion.

Obviously they found someone more qualified to be the cat and dog manager and just kept the dog trainer where he's at. with the economy the way it is stop crying and be happy that you have a job and you shouldn't talk badly about where you work because you're just creating bad business for yourself.

you said yourself your a dog trainer with petsmart and in turn said you wouldn never take your dog for training there. you're so smart i think you should think of college rather than a new job

Guest

Yea...they dont actually post the jobs in store...thats all done by corporate...my job has apparently been open for the last 3 years, same with my boss...it was explained to me that they do that so should they lose someone they already have many apps. to choose from.

Petco burned my dog's eye and had horrible service

I took my golden retriever to Petco to get groomed. The disaster started when two hours after dropping her off they had not even started on grooming her. When they finally finished and we picked her up, she was favoring her eye, blinking and obviously in pain.

We thought maybe they got soap in her eye so we washed it out with water and called petco for their opinion on what we should do. They told us to wash it out with a saline solution, so we did.

The next day it only looked worse, so we took her to the vet. They found no cuts on the first visit, but when her eye did not improve a couple of days later we took her back to the vet. They found a chemical burn in her eye that had blistered. So my sweet girl has a burn on her eyeball and will "probably" heal within a couple of weeks.

Do not take your pets to petco. It is absolutely not worth your pet being in pain.

How do you "favor an eye"? Maybe she had a eyelash in it?

How did your vet not see this "chemical burn" the first time? You'd think it would have been more visible.

Guest

I work at petco and we are required to use eye drops for the dogs to protect their eyes in case shampoo does get in their eyes. I'm sorry you had a bad experience at PETCO.

However not ALL PETCO salons are bad. At least at my salon we follow all policies and safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for the pets and staff.

Guest

This can happen at any grooming facility. Some dogs may shake or move and end up with soap in their eyes.

Even the most gentle, tearless shampoo can have this effect.

I use eyedrops before and after the bath to try to protect the eyes and have my groomers do the same. It is not mandatory at PetCo but it is at PetSmart.

PETCO -- Horrible customer service

I normally make all of my purchases and grooming from the Altamonte Sps FL PETCO with the exception of a bag of nutro dog food that I purchased from the Orlando - Colonial Drive location. I purchased a bag of dog food that got my 2 dogs very ill. My vet stated that the food is contaminated (both dogs ate the food for 2 days before becoming ill). I walked in to the Altamonte Petco location with the intent to exchange it, but was told that it could not be exchanged because it was not purchased there. I had my credit card statement and pals card with me, but this was not good enough. The store clerk redirected me to the Orlando - Colonial drive location. I had to drive 30 minutes into downtown to make an exchange, unacceptable. The management there was exceptional and made the transaction happen without any hesitation. The staff at this location was professional, courteous and felt extremely bad that both of my dogs got ill from this product. As a consumer I found this treatment unreasonable and unacceptable and will no longer be making any purchases from Petco. I submitted an online complaint to Petco and received a canned email template response from Bles D. explaining their return policy. She clearly did not read or comprehend my complaint. Unacceptable customer service.

Treats on doggie bar in petco

The open doggie treat bar in the Petco store in St. Joseph, MO.

The treats always end up full of bugs and worms within a week or two and I have to throw them away. I can only get there about once a month as I live a distance away.

I've tried keeping them in the plastic bags that they come in.....I've tried putting them in a sealed canister.....but they always end up full of worms, bugs and webs.

I sure hope you let Petco know about this so they can correct the problem. I don't intend to buy them there again.

I also ordered dog crates, two of them. I never got a tracking number and two weeks after ordering, I called.

Well, I got an operator in the Philippines and they were very little help. I requested a supervisor and I'm not so sure I didn't get just another operator. They are very hard to communicate with and talk like scripted robots. I finally spoke to a third "supervisor" who looked at the records and told me that she would call back.

Never did! Three weeks later I called again this time very angry. they still could not tell me if/when the shipment would come. They could not find a shipping number.

I told them to cancel my order and they refused telling me it was already processed. I was quite angry and have tried to talk to someone in their corporate in the US. Guess what, that's not even an option. All of their operators including corporate customer service is in the Philippines.

I finally got someone to agree to cancel the order only to have them be arrive at my house the next day. Only after I purchased them at a Petco store who matched the online price. I immediately called back and told them to pick them up and make sure that I was not charged for them. That was finally done the next day.

Oh no that's not the end, today 10 days later I received yet another crate and immediately checked my bank account which this time was charged over $100.00 without my authorization. I'll stop now but I now have to wait 4 - 6 days for my money to be given back.

Don't know about you but I don't have $100 dollars to just throw around. Good luck to anyone who decides to use Petco.com

Bad Service

Hello,

My name is Katie. On July 26th our pet fish "Dorthy" that we had for 5 months died. My three year old daughter was devastated as you can imagine. So we had a little funeral for her and we went to Petco to purchase another fish. My daughter picked out a Betta Crowntail Male. She was so excited about the red and blue colors on the tale. Anyway, they next morning I noticed that the fish had died sometime during the night. I did not want my daughter to know that it had died so I quickly put it in a zip lock bag and drove over to Petco. I was told I needed to talk to the manager in the fish department "Shaun" . I explained to him what happened and showed him my receipt. He took one look at it and said that the girl the day before had rung me up wrong. She under charged me. She only charged me $3.99 and it should have been rung up at $6.99. He said since that happened he would not be able to replace it with a crowntail fish. He said he would replace it with a cheaper fish but not a crowntail fish. I explained to him I needed the exact same kind and color so my daughter would not notice. He was very rude to me and not sympathetic to my daughters feelings. He said I could pay the difference for a crowntail fish. It was a $3 dollar difference. After several minuts of begging him to replace my fish he just walked away from me. I told me I would not be shopping here anymore and his response was "that's fine!" He did not care about my business or my daughters feelings. It's a big deal to a 3 year old losing a pet. I was so upset. I have never had such bad customer service in my life. I had to hurry and get home so I had to pay the $3 difference so I could have the same fish. I was not happy. My mom, also shops at Petco and she said she will be taking her business elsewhere. She couldn't believe a PETCO employee acted that way. So Petco lost our business over $3. Not good business.

Sincerely,

Katie

Now don't get me wrong, I really dislike Petco and their policies, and I'm NOT defending them- but on another note- parents like this just irritate me. Just tell your kid the fish died!!!

She'll get over it!!!

My parents never shielded me from a pet's death, even at a young age- and I wasn't scarred for life. I can't stand parents who coddle their kids like this!

Guest

seriously.. 3 Dollars?

yeah i agree youre a *** since you were undercharged you should have paid the differance you ***

Guest

So because they made a price error once, you are entitled to get that same price error every time you come in? Sorry, doesn't work that way.

Did he refuse the return? No. Did he offer a solution? Yes.

You could have easily replaced the fish, and payed the difference for the correct price. OR you could have gotten a similarly colored regular male Betta and paid nothing.

No offense...your daughter is three. She'd probably not notice the change.

BIAS AND UNFAIR TREATMENT OF AFRICAN AMERICAN EMPLOYEES

Petco

Posted: 2010-04-10 by AGAINST BIAS CORPORATIONS

PREJUDICE

Complaint Rating: 0 % with 0 votes

Company information:

PETCO

Fontana, California

United States

I worked for PETCO for over two years, promoted to pricing and inventory manager held this position for eight months part of my job was to mark items down to manager choice before they get donated to rescue groups, during that time they transfer over a assistant manager who was already labeled as lazy, I complained about her from the start her demeanor was racial she was always profiling the African American customers and employee's accusing them of stealing items from the store and stealing snakes when in fact the snakes were never missing she did not do a proper habitat check when I called PETCO HOTLINE and my DM all of my complaints were ignored and in January 2010, I marked down a blk fish stand from the last standing clearance price of $72.00 to the new manager choice price of $65.00 which I had the right to do so, and on that Saturday weekend before Superbowl I purchased one for that price plus my discount which I had the right to use and everyone knew about it, they waited until almost seven weeks after that when I complained again against there assistant store manager for racial profiling against an ex African American ex employee and slandering my name to lower ranking employees to say I should not have bought the product for that price and fired me and refuse to give me my unemployment, when they all know it was a lie I had been purchasing manager choice since I was first hired and while I was in the position NO-One Never Came and Said What Your Doing Is Wrong, However the assistant store manager was able to deceive PETCO return all products off a receipt that a Caucasian employee parent had purchased without their discount card then re-ring it and apply the employee discount without the parent nor the product in the store and sign forms and return $20.00 dollars to the employee dad who happens to be her neighbor: PETCO Policy you cannot get your discount without your card and proper ID, so is that not internal theft, but she is still employed, she's Caucasian, he's Caucasian and I am a person of color. If you believe in equal treatment no matter ethical profile BOYCOTT PETCO, THEY ARE LIARS, BIAS AND PREJUDICES...MAKE YOUR VOICE OF DISAPPROVAL COUNT...

This lady is right in some respects. In the Petco atmosphere if you acknowledge a wrong by an employee and the store manager does not like what you acknowledged and who acknowledged it against, you have become a target for dismisal.

This is to bad because this could be a great place to work. But there are too many people in the Petco enviroment that have longevity on the job that should have been let go along time ago. To many good employees have walk through their doors only to find that those employees who have been working for the company along long time are very bias about other employees and customers. So the question is why doesn't Petco get rid of their bias employees?

These employees run off the good employee. The bias stick togather and its hard for the DM to see what is happening.

As long as the numbers are meant that all they care about. The employees go through this company like water.

Guest

"I'm black, everyone is prejudiced against me, I have it so hard, waaaaaaah!"

Also, a black person is just BLACK, not "african" american. Unless they just came over from Africa. My great grandparents came over from the Ukraine but I don't call myself a Ukraine-American.

If CAJUNGIRL says she experienced racism at work, including systematic racism on the part of one supervisor and the ignoring of complaints by headquarters, only troll-like people would post to her, a stranger, accusing her of making it up or using race as an excuse. Get real, how would strangers know and why would strangers even bother to challenge her about it unless they are merely being jerks projecting their own biases and issues on to her post?

In addition, it isn't unheard of for individuals in management to mistreat employees, including racist or sexist behaviors and double standards. It is also too common for companies to ignore complaints until they end up sued. There have been numerous such cases over the last 20 years.

Having said that, CAJUNGIRL, typing in all CAPS is cyber-yelling and difficult to read. I tried to read all of your responses but then didn't because of it. More people will read your posts carefully if you refrain from cyber-yelling, and do use punctuation because that makes for easier reading too.

Employees should get together and file a joint discrimination suit and then the company would be forced to take responsibility for racist managers.

Guest

I HAVE WORKED AT SEVERAL PETCOS AND IN THE LAST ONE I'VE WORKED AT ( FOR 3 YEARS ) I'VE SEEN THE SAME TREATMENT HE MENTIONED ON A DAILY BASIS. pEOPLE OF COLOR ARE RARELY HIRED AND EXCEPT FOR ONE PERSON, NEVER PROMOTED.

IF PEOPLE OF COLOR COME INTO THE STORE, THE MANAGER MAKES US FOLLOW THEM AROUND UNTIL THEY LEAVE. IF THE PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE MALE, HE MAKES CONSTANT COMMENTS ABOUT HOW SCARY THEY ARE. IF YOU COMPLAIN TO THE HOTLINE OR THE DM, NOTHING HAPPENS EXCEPT THAT HE GETS FIRE-HAPPY IN THE STORE. THE PERSON WHO COMPLAINED IS CONSIDERED DISGRUNTLES AND GETS ENOUGH WRITE-UPS THAT HE/SHE IS FIRED.

IN THE THREE YEARS I'VE SEEN HIM DO THIS TO FOUR PEOPLE. I NEED MY JOB.

I USED TO LOVE IT BUT I'M LOOKING FOR A NEW ONE. HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS OUT OF THE 6 MANAGERS I'VE HAD.

Guest

There are so many things that can be said here. But I will stick to a few.

1) Ive not seen this kind of activity in Petco and Im a woman of color as well. I love this place. 2) It is sadly true that when some people are fired they try to play that trump card of being terminated or mistreated based on racial background. 3) I would make it tremendously easy if someone used punctuation correctly.

It makes reading the post so much easier. I think what you did is against company policy, you got caught and fired and you are now trying to use the internet as a battleground.

As a woman of color myself Im disgusted with behavior like this. Makes the rest of us look bad.

CAJUNGIRL B

AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION PETCO EMPLOYEE THE RING PRICE WAS A BLANK PROMPT SO IT REQUIRES YOU TO PUT IN THE MC$ PRICE WHICH WAS 65.00 THE NSC LAST CLEARANCE PRICE WAS $72.00, SO I WAS WITHIN MY RIGHTS AND SINCE YOUR SUCH A EXPERT YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT REALLY....

PETCO HAS A BIAS AND UNFAIR TREATMENT STANDARDS AGAINST AFRICAN AMERICANS BUT THE TRUTH IS OTHER RACES STILL FROM THEM ON A DAILY BASIS AND IT'S OK WITH PETCO THEY RAISE PRICES AND USE IT DURING INVENTORY AS A INSURANCE WRITE-OFF....WHEN YOU DO WRONG AGAINST GOD'S ANOINTED YOU WILL FEEL THE WRATH OF GOD JUST WATCH AND SEE

CAJUNGIRL B

WELL PETCO EMPLOYEE, FOR YOUR INFO AT THE STORE I WORKED AT WE WERE ALL ALLOWED TO USE OUR EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT ON MC$, SO BEFORE YOU THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING CHECK YOURSELF AND PETCO IS A BIAS RACIAL CORPORATION WHITE AND HISPANIC CAN DO THINGS AND IT'S IGNORED OR JUSTIFIED WHEN A PERSON OF COLOR DO IT THEY USE IT AGAINST THEM YOUR PROBABLY ONE OF THEM,AND BECAUSE I SERVE JESUS IT WILL BE EXPOSED THE DEVIL WILL NOT WIN CAUSE HE'S NO MATCH FOR JESUS AND NEITHER OR YOU....... :grin

Guest

Just pointing out that what you bought actually WAS against company policy. Manager's choice merchandise may be purchased in conjunction with the employee discount ONLY if they are left at the ringing price- in your case 72.00. You can't use your discount on an MC$ item if you mark it down past ringing price.

WELL JAKE,

AT LEAST WE BOTH AGREE ON THE FACT YOUR NOT MY ENGLISH PROFESSOR, HE ACTUALLY ENJOYED MY PRESENCE IN HIS CLASS BEING INTELLIGENT AND SERVING MY COUNTRY WAS A RESPECT I EARNED WITH HUMBLENESS AND GRACE. I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO VOICE MY DISAPPROVAL OF PETCO BIAS AND UNFAIR TREATMENT OF PEOPLE OF COLOR NO MATTER EMPLOYED OR A CONSUMER,IT BEING THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION FREEDOM OF SPEECH. SO REGARDLESS TO YOUR OPINION WHICH EVERYONE HAS ONE I MARCH ON,FIGHT ON SO IF MY MESSAGE GETS ACROSS TO A FEW HUNDRED THEN MY VOICE HAS BEEN HEARD. SO IF YOU BELIEVE BIAS AND UNFAIR TREATMENT IS WRONG THEN BOYCOTT PETCO AND HAVE A GOOD YEAR......

FIND A CONCERN THAT MATTERS TO YOURSELF FIND THE PROS AND CONS TO YOUR FIGHT, THEN SEE HOW MANY FOOLS WITH ABSTRACT VIEW COMMENT ON WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN. AND SEE HOW MANY YOU CAN CONVINCE TO BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU BELIEVE, AS FOR ME I BELIEVE IN EQUALITY AND NON BIAS TREATMENT. IN AMERICA YOU QUICKLY LEARN THAT CAUCASIANS AND PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE TREATED DIFFERENTLY ALL ACROSS THE BOARD. FOR EXAMPLE TIGER WOODS AND HIS ISSUES WITH HIS WIFE AND PITTSBURGH STEELERS QUARTERBACK BIG BEN,ONE WAS A CHEATER AND THE OTHER ACCUSED OF RAPE AND ASSAULT TWICE, PERSON OF COLOR DISGRACED BEFORE THE WORLD THROUGH THE MEDIA ENDORSEMENTS PULLED BAD MOUTH FOR COMMITTING ADULTERY AND DISHONORING HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN, AND BIG BEN ALL CHARGES DROPPED AND HIS ISSUES QUIETLY DISAPPEARED. TIGER'S ISSUE NONE OF AMERICA'S BUSINESS ON THE OTHER HAND BIG BEN ONE VERY CONCERNING DID HE VIOLATE THESE WOMEN THAT IS THE QUESTION????????TWO ETHICAL BACKGROUNDS WITH MONEY BUT RACE PLAYED A BIG PART IN HOW THE MEDIA PLAYED INTO IT. :p

Guest

I, too, am a college graduate. I have degrees in business as well as logistics.

As I said in my original reply, if it is a legitimate racial issue, then you have every right to file a lawsuit. It's hard to be racist when I'm also an African American :?. I don't want to disrespect any race, but I call it like I see it. I don't speak from preconceived notions that the media is shoving down peoples throats, I speak from real world experience.

To put it bluntly, I call it like I see it. You are right on one of your points - I'm not your English professor (thank God :))

Kicked outta pet~no

I've been taking my dog to Pet~no in MOUNT PROSPECT for 8 years to be groomed. He is not happy when being brushed or groomed on his hind legs so it's in his profile to muzzle each time he is groomed. Last time, a different girl groomed him & did not put the muzzle on properly & nipped her. When I arrived to pick him up, he was tied to the back wall & then the store manager & the groomer arrived & told me I could not have him groomed there anymore & to have him sedated & groomed @ his vet. No~way! So I contacted corporate & they must've contacted the general manager & she contacted me to apologize & invite my dog back to be groomed again. So..... 2 months later, I scheduled an appointment Three days later, I received a call saying I could not bring my dog in for grooming. So, here I was @ the last minute....cancelled. Nicole would not groom him & Susan, the store manager lied to me the first time obviously. Told me she would call me back & never did. Very unprofessional. Eenie~meenie~minee~mo.....what can we do to entertain ourselves today @ our very unexcititng store???? hmmmmm.....

First of all as a groomer. you should have your aggressive dog be handled by one groomer only and ask to stay or have him sedated and have your vet do it.

If he bit someone he would be considered dangerous. No groomer wants to be bit its not fun as you can imagine. Be a responsible pet owner and know who is handling your pet at all times.

or keep a muzzle with you and bring him in with it on and instruct to not have it removed. Dont make excuses for your dogs bad habits.

Guest

I'm surprized they willingly groomed your dog for 8 years. You should at least be happy somone was willing to deal with your pup. We do have the right to send away an unruly dog or an agressive dog, even cats, its in the best interest for the dog's and our safety. In all honesty the groomer(s) that had continued to groom your dog known for "nipping" or biting, whichever way you want to say it, could have been seriously be reprimanded or releaved from working at petco for breaking their policies.

I work with difficult dogs occationally, a few I've turned around and they no longer require using muzzles any more and some still need it but after their grooming they are sweet dogs. I do get some very bad unruly pups that I unfortunitly have to send to the vet, and even then its another groomer that has to work with them, not always is a sidated dog easier to work with, sometimes they can get worse. The vet near me recently had her finger bitten off from an aggresive dog. Our job is hard sometimes and sometimes its rewarding.

There are many things owners dont understand about grooming, it gets repeditive informing owners out there pets. But I continue to tell as many people as I can as much information possible about how grooming is and preparing puppies for grooming it is a life long task your pups need to get use to and hopefully they get a good patient groomer to start with, I've seen poor puppies ruined for grooming because of a mean or impatient groomer. I just opened my mother in laws eyes the other day, she wanted a yorkie and I informed her lifetime (10-15yrs) cost for everything food, toys, vet, grooming, etc. Including the cost of the puppy would likely cost $20,000-$30,000 , and how she needed to help perpare her puppy for grooming by playing with its feet and in the paw pads, touching the nails, touch its face and around its mouth, touching the gums and teeth, which helps the groomer out by letting the puppy know its ok to be touched there, she has since changed her mind.

Just keep in mind there are bad dogs and bad groomers for every good one out there.

Guest

You probably need to get your dog trained. Any groomer - corporate or not - has the right to refuse an unruly and aggressive dog.

Have you taken him to the vet to get him checked out? A lot of times dogs will be aggressive towards touch if they have a medical condition you do not know about. That's the first step. The next step would be to get your dog in a training program that you can attend. I know for a fact PETCO will not take you in their training program, I believe their policy is "When in doubt, refer out." So I am sure they have some recommendations for you.

Training saves a dog's life. The number one reason canines are put to death is due to lack of training.

Just wait until your dog bites a kid on the street, you get a lawsuit and your dog is court ordered to be euthanized. Then you won't be on the internet complaining about how PETCO refused you.

First off I groom some dogs that are very aggressive and warn bathers and other groomers about them. Second I WILL SEND A DOG HOME FOR BEING AGGRESSIVE!!

I can remember one time a german shepered comes in for a full service bath, the bather has a hard timw with her, but continues, them comes to me when she is getting the dog out of the cage to take home, it had bitten her in the face!! I took control of the situation and got the dog under control while its trying to *** me and gets its collar on and take it out front for the owner while its trying to *** me, and tell the owner you can't bring back your dog ever. What am I supposed to do? Let the dog *** a bather or groomer again?

I think I handled well. Just because we groom your dog or cat and wipe its lil A## does not make us your doormatt

thanks so much, have a great day !

Guest

You should be very glad that your dog was not quarentined or sent away to be put down. At any place and time if your dog is to attack someone then it's considered unsuitable for society and it's the way that you raise and train your dog...

you can easily train your dog at your own home by doing what you're supposed to do which is to brush he/she every day. Your dog was a risk to all groomers and was lucky to not be put down!

Guest

Train your dog! Don't blame the groomer because they don't want to groom your crazy *** dog!

Guest

Groomers have every right to turn away a dog that bites. Are you gonna pay their bills if damage is done to their hands and they can't work. Corporate probably didn't talk to the groomer first about the situation.

Petco injured our dog and then lied to us (caught on audio tape)

I have a problem with PETCO and I'm wondering what my next step should be. here's a bit of the back story. Our dog had been sprayed by a skunk in September. It was a small spot on her chest, but as you can imagine it smelled horrible. We brought her to PETCO because they have a grooming service that claims to take care of the problem. A few days after she got back, we noticed that she appeared to ahve some sort of infection and her skin was flaking off over here entire body. This made absolutely no sense considering the fact that I have dealt with animals that have been sprayed before and this had never happened. It wasn't just in the area that was sprayed, it was her entire body. As i said, the skin was flaking and smelled horrible, like rotting flesh. We went back to PETCO and spoke to the man that had actually given her the bath. Much to our surprise, he advised us that they had a problem with a particular product that had actually caused dogs to get infected in the past. he went on to tell us that the skin would flake off the dogs. he said that due to this, they had stopped using the product for awhile, but for some unknown reason, began using it again. We were told to take the dog to the vet to get antibiotics and PETCO would take care of the vet bill. But there was an even more surprising part. This same employee also told us that they have also had problems with their spray bottles. he said that the bottles aren't washed properly and they had a problem with fungus growing inside the bottles. This could have also been part of the problem. So we went to the vet who confirmed an infection. When we tried to bring the vet bill back to PETCO, we had a difficult time reaching the manager. Each time we visited, she was either in a meeting or mysteriously unavailable. When she was available and we were able to speak to her, she twice denied receiving any fax from the vet, despite us knowing that the vet sent the fax. When she finally made sure she received the fax, the manager said that they would not pay the vet bill. She then said that there has been no other reported incidents in the past and there has never been any issues with their products or with their bottles. We ahve tried several times to get this resolved with the local store, but that got us nowhere. Eventually we called the toll-free customer service number. Several times, we were promised a call back. And each time, we would wait 7 - 10 days. And at the end of the 7 - 10 day waiting period, we would call back and were again promised a call back. We finally received a call back from the district manager today who simply said that thy have "protocols" in place for cleaning the bottles. She didn't address the issue with the chemical that caused the problem as well. When I informed her that we have good evidence to show that those procedures weren't followed and we were made promises, she said she could not do anything about it and would have to have someone from "risk management" (or something like that) call me back. I am thinking about taking this to district court to get them to pay for the vet bill as promised. We have the statements from the vets to help our case. But on top of that, we also have the conversations with the employees on audio tape. We have the employee talking about the fungus in the bottles plus the product that caused the same exact issue in other dogs that have been taken to PETCO for grooming. We also have the manager denying that there has ever been any problems in the past. We live in a "one party consent" state so I know there are no legal issues with the recordings. If this does go to court, we will also be able to use those items in court. And since this is a civil case and not a criminal case, we really only need a preponderance of the evidence. I feel we have a really strong case, but was hoping to avoid having to go to court. We have tried addressing this by every avenue we could find but it seems like we have reached a dead end, and it seems like we are just being strung along with promises of calls that never come. Is there something else we should do or should I just go ahead and file the paperwork for court? Thanks for your help!

Any time I have this sort of a problem I always call our local government representative, in Canada they are called MLA'S, then I call the reporters at the newspaper and t.v. stations who have people on staff that deal with consumer reports only, I always get some sort of response from whoever ripped me off, because those reporters are RELENTLESS when it comes to a good story---they sure don't want it blabbed all over the news...get calling...you might even be on T.V., I was, the reporter was fantastic---he was like a dog with a bone...good luck...

Guest

i think you should go to court

Hope L Jlb

The vet said that it was a skin infection most likely caused by the solution they used on the dog. The vet then talked to the manager on the phone (who the vet said was extremely rude and defensive.) Antibiotics were prescribed.

The vet then faxed the necessary paperwork to the manager three times (because she said she never got it the first two times.)

In the end, we had to pay the vet out of our own pockets.

SO...WHAT DID THE VET DO?

This sure sounds like a lousy job! No dog gets out of my salon (not PetCo) without a complete brush out and de-shedding and has to be 100% dry.

Damp dogs can end up with fungal infections and all sorts of problems. The only thing I would say, if the job is done properly on a husky, the price would have to be much higher.

Guest

Listen, we get alot of dogs in. We can't do em all at the same time it takes a while.

We do a *** good job too, if we would have taken 2 hrs to brush out ur dog cause it has double matting n I'm sure is shedding too, we could have messed up our expensive tools. So, *** you.

We have lots of loyal customers we don't care if we loose one. Go to petsmart.

Guest

they are supposed to do 15 min of brushing!! no 30

Guest

yes they are supposed to brush ur dog out for at least 30 min and should never have been sent home wet. the only reason any of this wasnt done was either the dog didnt like to be brushed of they were lazy but the one i work at is nothing like that and it is not accepted for any reason

Petco leads false advertising coupons.

The outside of the envelope I recieved from Petco stated "$5.00 off your next Petco purchase" I thought great I need dog food for my 13lb dog. When I get to the register Im informed I need to spend $50.00 to recieve this offer. Pissed me off. I could have gone to Petsmart which the food is less. But No it said $5.00 off which was a better deal then Petsmart price. The cashier would Not work with me in anyway but to say Sorry. When I asked for the manager..Out to lunch! SO Petco... dont false advertise on the outside. How are little dog owners in this economy gonna get a bit of the bennifit? I will NOT be returning to Petco!

i personally work for petco and all of our coupons clearly state how much you have to spend. next time open your eyes and actually read the coupon

BIG BOX STORES ARE WELL TRAINED IN MISLEADING CONSUMERS WITH THEIR ADS. THEY COUNT ON GETTING YOU INTO THEIR STORES AND SELLING YOU SOMETHING ELSE THAT YOU MAY NEED...AS LONG AS YOU ARE THERE.DO YOU LOW WAGE EARNERS THINK THAT YOU ARE NOT BEING USED BY CORPORATE POWERS THAT HAVE MASTERED THE ART OF MAKING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THE SHAREHOLDERS?

Guest

Good ..petco doesn't need anymore annoying people like you.

Guest

Totally your fault lady. I have gotten plenty of coupons for plenty of places and sometimes I forget to read the small print and the cashiers always point it out to me.

I also know that they can only do so much.

They can't discount a bag of food for 8.00 to 3.00. Just saying.

Guest

Im usually pretty polite and mild mannered...but you are the reason this country is in the ***...get your mothers nipple out of your mouth and grow up...its like reading a book and stopping 3/4 of the way through it, but getting pissed off because you wont read any further and dont know how it ends.

Guest

The coupons say, in small print, that you have to spend a minimum amount to get the discount. Maybe you should actually read the entire coupon?

Petco Injured Dog, Required Surgery

Unbelievable story. Our beloved 18 month old pure bred Australian Sheppard was brought into Petco for grooming by my wife. When my wife went to pick up our dog, her eye looked was red and swollen. By the time she got home, the eye was completely closed. She returned to the store to ask what Associate Christine C had done to her eye, and we were told that the shampoo had gone directly into her eye. Why hadn't they at least warned my wife? My wife then took our dog to the emergency room vet that day, where she had to be sedated due to pain and an inability to open the eye. She was put on antibiotics. Then, this weekend the dog continued to suffer from what must have been a burn in her eye, so we took her to our regular vet. The eye was completely opaque. Impossible to have been shampoo that did this. The vet said she had never seen such a bad corneal burn, of the entire eye. They operated on our dog this morning, trying to save the eye. My kids have been crying knowing that today our beloved dog got her eye sutured shut in order to save the eye, all because of someone who obviously did not care. I am very upset. If anyone has any advice, please write me at medicaldevicesale AT yahoo.com. If you are also pissed after reading this, please boycott their stores. If you are really really pissed, call the store. They have been nothing but rude to us, and even refused to return my wife's payment, stating that they had provide a service. Yeah, what a service indeed. Notice the left eye of our dog which was burned so badly that the light reflects differently. I am sick to my stomach just writing this and seeing the photo.

'Irish' is well-know on complaintsboard.com as a self-admitted shoplifter, thief and sociopath. She desperately needs psychological help and truies to hurt posters by posting passive/aggressive and accusatory comments.

If you see anything from this poster, ignore it.

Any responses indicating you're upset will only amuse her sick mind and warped personality. thank you!

Guest

first of all when we shampoo dogs, if any soap gets in the eye we flush it immediately, we rinse the eye before and after shampooing

Guest

The same person posted this on complaintsboard.com. They even displayed a picture of the "injured dog." Judging from the picture the dog looks fine so I wonder what they are trying to gain by this complaints.

Petco butchered my poodle

Petco butchered my poodle

I took my puppy in to be groomed at PetCo thinking that because of the high cost I would have no problems and that my poodle would be properly done. They butchered him, they cut him in 4 places on his stomach, told me he was severly matted (he was groomed at PetsMart less than one month prior and he is totally and indoor dog except to go potty).

They did not clean the hair out of his ears, they did not shave his feet, but they took the clippers and they stripped him down when I told them I wanted "fluffy." His coat was so whacked and not even that I had to contact another groomer and have him taken in just to shave him down completely so that when he grows back out he will grow out evenly. It was the worst experience ever. I was told by a groomer that used to work at PetCo that it is not about the quality of your dog and they charge for every little thing they do. They just like to run them in and run them out.

I will not step foot into a place like that ever. The only great thing is I found a professional groomer that will take special care of my little puppy. I told them exactly what I wanted. I hope this will save another dog from such an experience.

My dog goes to the groomer every 4 weeks, because we like him fluffy and don't want him matted.

PetsMart did a better job, but I recommend a personal groomer in place of a large corporation. Best of luck to other pet owners in the future.

Yes I agree. ...

the larger companies don't seem to care how their grooming depts., operate!

They give a lot of Hype about their so called love of animals but my experience with Petco has left me livid with the way both the grooming dept., operates & store mgt. through customer care could care less!

Guest

PETCO cares about nothing but, money. Worst "customer service" ever. I buy NOTHING from these greedy people.

Rollin Dda

I had similar experience in Laveen, AZ at the Petco. I didn't know how to put a picture up, but it was a horrific event for me.

I will never use or by anything from them again. I keep getting coupons in the mail, but I'm finished with Petco.

This happen before, but not as bad, I thought they may have learned from the previous bad grooming.

Guest

Any corporate place is gonna try to pull them in and push them out... Quality doesnt matter, only quantity...

And if you personally, as a groomer who cares, try to go for quality rather than quantity, you get punished for not meeting goals... Thats corporate america for ya

Angry F Bhw

Please do not stand for this. They hurt that sweet little doggy so give them ***.

I live in Toronto and I had a similar experience at Petcetra where my huge standard poodle came out looking like a rat. I made a huge stink and you better stand up for your poor dog. Can you imagine his pain? Being held down and sliced?

These people are awful. Tell your story all over and boycott them.

Guest

*** OFF BOB. YOU ARE A PIG.

THIS IS A PERSONS PET AND THEY PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THIS MESS. LETS PUT BOBBO DOWN.

Guest

Your right! This dog is a mess!

I think you should take it to the vet and have it put down!

OR Maybe just wait a month and take it somewhere else! The dog seems alot more normal than you, and he was the one that was butcherd

Cut my dogs tail off!

About a month ago I followed a friends advice and brought my Pomeranian in to Debbie to be groomed at PETCO in Olympia, WA. We ended up picking him up from the Steamboat Island Animal Hospital because she cut the tip of his tail off during grooming.

She lied saying it was only a tiny piece. The vet tech got the piece out of the trash and it was a half inch! He ended up having surgery to have it fixed. This was very traumatic to the little guy.

I hope no one else has to suffer under this groomers malpractice and neglect again. They have not returned our calls.

I'm assuming the vet bill was paid. This was a horrible experience and will never step foot into that store again.

Accidents do happen. 18 yrs of grooming.

I do not know how anyone can cut off a part of a dogs tail. that is just a groomer who is not trained well. the job is not easy but if you do not have the patients to deal with it find a different job. As for the groomers at petco being trashy and that they have no guidelines.

that is incorrect. I have worked in private salones and for petco and as a company they have very strick rules. Do not hold all groomers in the same light as the ones trying to place blame on how hard the job is or that poms are hard to do and are injured all the time! I have never injured a pom and love to groom them because the coat is so beautifull.

If a employee dose not follow policy they should be fired or reschooled in how to deal with dogs who are not accustomed to being groomed.

Accidents happen, no groomer wants to send a dog tothe vet or see it injured. you are a groomer because you love animals and like helping people keep them healthy and beautifull.

Guest

I work at a Banfield (which is inside Petsmart, not Petco) and about once a week the groomers come through our door with an injury for us to look at. We can constantly hear the groomers SCREAMING at the dogs to "shut up" or "NO!!!." Dogs shouldn't be yelled at, it makes them more fearful.

I've seen everything from clipper burn to pieces of ears cut off. I understand that accidents happen, but they shouldn't happen that frequently.

Anyway, that's just my particular location. Just thought I'd share.

what is your location. the groomer at PetSmart on Laguna just ripped the tip of my dogs tail off.

Yes ripped!! she said she was brushing a matt out of her hair and her tail came off (leaving my babies bone exposed). What a horrific experience my baby went through. she is still being treated.

I was told that Michelle may have had a bad day and didn't mean to hurt her. She is still not the same. When I take her in to have her tail looked at and rewrapped -- I see Michelle there working like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile my baby is still suffering and I am still crying.

they need to hire someone to stand guard in the back. I asked to see the video and they refused as they are investigation the incident.

if you've ever had a bad experience at the groomer email me lizloya@***.com. thank you

i am a groomer of 5 yrs and i cut the end of a malteses tail today oh i felt so aweful it was only about 2mm but man it bled so much i took the poor dog to the vet and paid for treatment and appoligised a million times to the owner and she was very understanding. i still feel so aweful about doing it its only my second accident in 5yrs but thats no excuse.

Everyone makes mistakes, but our job is not easy and you need alot of patience but i wouldnt be doing anything else i love my job and my animals.

Sorry little milo i will bring you a nice juicy bone next time i see you. :)

Anyone else hate the Jennys? I think Jenny #1 is trashy and Jenny #2 is an incompetent retard herself.

They suck. Thats all

Guest

i'm a groomer and i feel bad for your little dog, however it is hard to imagine that the groomer cut the tip of your pom's tail off if you've never groomed a dog before. Pom's are very hard to keep still on the table and are one of the most injured in my experience.

it's sad when ever a pet gets hurt and the groomer most likely felt awful, groomers are not all in it for the money and especially not at petco where they only get 50% commision. hopr your guy is well....

Guest

jenny #1- if you're overworked and underpaid, then go get a different *** job. second, how do you know this groomer wasn't just an incompetent retard?
